Masiya’s Camp: A Bold and Beautiful Tribute to Legacy in the Bush

Tucked away in the Greater Kruger wilderness lies Masiya’s Camp, the newest jewel in the Royal Malewane crown. Joining the distinguished lineup of Malewane Lodge, The Farmstead & Farmhouse, Waterside & Waterside House, and Africa House, this latest addition brings a fresh and meaningful perspective to the safari experience — intimate, soulful, and rich in heritage.

Masiya’s Camp is named in honor of Wilson Masiya, a legendary master tracker whose life and legacy continue to inspire Royal Malewane’s approach to guiding and conservation. His remarkable journey — from fleeing civil war to becoming a founding member of the Royal Malewane team — reflects the resilience, knowledge, and passion that define the spirit of the camp.

Masiya’s Camp stands as a tribute not only to Wilson, but to the deep cultural and ecological ties that shape every Royal Malewane experience.

In true Liz Biden style, the design is bold, vibrant, and unforgettable. Each of the six suites is housed beneath soft-pink canvas — a surprising and elegant choice that feels at once playful and sophisticated. The interiors are a masterclass in curated beauty, blending vintage charm with contemporary luxury, and accented by eclectic art and global design treasures that reflect both imagination and deep cultural respect.

Every detail of the camp has been designed to celebrate the surrounding bush and to offer guests a sense of calm, connection, and comfort. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the untamed landscape like natural paintings, allowing light and views to pour into the living spaces. Each suite features an expansive wooden deck, a private heated plunge pool, and an indoor/outdoor shower — creating a serene retreat that seamlessly merges luxury with the rhythm of nature.

Thoughtfully layered textures, artful furnishings, and curated color palettes create interiors that are both bold and welcoming. There’s an unmistakable sense of joy and personality in every corner — a celebration of Africa’s wild beauty and a tribute to the man whose name the camp bears.

Our Marketing and Client Coordinator, Chloe Collins, was one of the first to stay at this extraordinary new lodge. Her time at Masiya’s Camp was nothing short of unforgettable — a deeply moving experience that brought the story of Wilson Masiya to life in a powerful and personal way. From waking to the sounds of the bush, to walking in the footsteps of a legend, Chloe described her stay as a rare opportunity to connect not just with nature, but with a legacy of courage, community, and conservation. It was a privilege to experience firsthand the heart and heritage that define this special place.

Masiya’s Camp is more than a luxurious new destination — it’s a story, a legacy, and an immersive homage to the spirit of Wilson Masiya. Here, in this exquisitely designed camp, guests are invited not only to experience the magic of the bush, but also to feel part of something timeless — a place where past and present converge in the most beautiful way.
